From Giuseppe Tornatore (Cinema Paradiso) comes this sexy and sensitive coming-of-age saga set in 1940s Sicily, where 13-year-old Renato (Giuseppe Sulfaro). Some of the lines there and at other places made me laugh right out loud. Otherwise, it's a pretty humorous film in segments, especially with dialog between the young kid and his dad.
What happens to her, unfairly, near the end is not pleasant. She is almost beyond description, looks-wise. Many of the movies I've watched have shown the strife in Germany, America, Japan, but this movie beats all of them out the. As an American who is so used to watching movies about WWII, it's really interesting to watch a movie for the first time- highlight the struggles within Mussolini's Italy.
